Fancy three, six or twelve months of service abroad? Curious about the country and people “on the other side of the world”? Open to new experiences in animal welfare?
FinnDomingo e.V. is once again offering this opportunity and is advertising a position at the AYIN RUKA animal shelter as part of its volunteer service. It is located in Los Álamos, a small rural town in the Región del Bío Bío, a good 600 km south of the capital Santiago.
Otilia, the founder and operator of Ayin Ruka, is a member of the FinnDomingo network “Chilean Animal Welfare Association”. She has been looking after more than 70 dogs and one cat for 13 years, largely at her own expense. However, at almost 77 years old, she is finding the work increasingly difficult and urgently needs support.
Applications are now open.
What we need.
Training in animal care would be nice, but is not a requirement. However, it is absolutely necessary:
- Practical experience in handling dogs,
- Willingness to work on a regular basis, including dirty work,
- At least a basic knowledge of Spanish and the willingness to take part in an (advanced) language course if necessary.
- Diligence, reliability, physical fitness,
- Patience, flexibility and stamina.
Also helpful would be:
- Driver’s license,
- Affinity for social media,
- Enjoyment of photography,
- Manual skills.
The assignment is planned for at least three months; extension is possible.
