Every year in October/November, FinnDomingo e.V. organizes a Project Trip to Chile. The participants may change, as well a the locations and tasks, but the goals are always the same.
Our objectives:
1. Offer expert support for species-appropriate animal welfare
2. Promote awareness that responsible, knowledge-based animal welfare is of utmost importance for all countries around the world, not just a “luxury for the rich”
That is why education plays a central role in all our projects. Chile is not a poor country, but wealth is very unevenly distributed, and radical neoliberalism has resulted in, among other things, an inconsistant education system.
Since animals do not vote, their needs are generally of little interest to the country’s decision-makers. On the other hand, the general population has a growing interest in animal welfare and nature conservation. However, there is a lack of knowledge, opportunity, and government support which results in a lack of improvement in both animal welfare and nature conservation.
Once a year, we visit the member organizations of our Chilean network to develop ideas for specific projects on site and then implement them over the following months and years. Our 2025 Project Trip ended October 29th in Los Álamos at the “Ayin Ruka” animal shelter. We will publish the final report with all the trip segments and results here later.
